How to Run a Successful Marathon

Did you know that there are over one million people who compete in marathons every, single year?

We're not just talking about people who up and decide to participate, these are people who are dedicated to running, chase the perfect time and live life driven.

Have you dreamed of running the perfect marathon? There is no time like now to make the decision to turn that dream into a reality.

Don't feel intimidated, simply keep reading for the top tips on how to run a successful marathon.

How To Run: Understand Your Training

As with turning any dream into a reality, there comes a certain amount of training before you can dive right in. The training leading up to your first marathon is grueling but doable.

Marathon training is about the build-up and how you track progress.

How Far Should You Run In Training?

A marathon is always 26.2 miles long.

The opinions on how far your training should take you vastly differ from trainer to trainer. Really, the distance depends on how you've set specific goals. Are you going for a fast marathon? Or does slow and steady with completion check your box?

Runners going for speed or wanting to be professional athletes should probably opt for longer training runs while those looking to simply complete can even out their distances.

You should be aiming for around 35 to 45 miles per week.

Increasing Your Weekly Mileage

Does 35 to 45 miles per week sound insane right now? Never fear.

The point is that you'll have a good idea of when your first marathon will be, so you're going to know how many weeks or months you have to safely increase your running mileage each week.

We suggest that you safely hit the 26.2-mile mark at least a month before your marathon.

Get The Correct Equipment

Knowing about your goals and training is one thing, but a chef is only as good as the ingredients he has.

The same applies to runners and their equipment. You cannot hope to finish a marathon in the same running shoes you've been using for the past 18 months.

Not only do marathon runners have shoes that check all their boxes, but their running kit is also made for long-distance running. Ensure that you get all the right equipment so that you avoid not only discomfort but injury too.

Pick Your Race And Go For It

We know that you more than likely have your first dream race in mind already. This may be a famous race you've always dreamt of doing or one that just happens to be in a city that you've always dreamt of visiting.

Now you know how to run, your final step is to put in that entry and go for it.

Put those feet to the asphalt and prove that you can be as successful in your marathon running as you are in all other things that you set your mind to.
