How to Advance Your Career from Home

Advancing your career takes a lot of work, but no one said you couldn't do it from the comfort of your home.

We're all getting more used to working from home these days. Some of us thrive in his position, while others need the office environment to keep them on track. If you're finding yourself enjoying your work from home freedom but you're not sure how to advance your career, then this post is for you.

At Live Life Driven, we've got your career in mind. Remote work can be just what the doctor ordered, but you need self-discipline and the motivation to move forward if you're going to make it happen. Here are a few tips on how to take your career trajectory up a notch.

Advance Your Knowledge, Advance Your Career

When you begin to feel stagnant in your career, it's often because you've become complacent. It's easy to punch the clock and do the same thing every single day, but it isn't very rewarding.

Turn yourself into a sponge and read as much as possible about topics that you're interested in. When you find something that really hits home, whether it be a self-help concept or a way to reframe your work life, you'll be able to apply it to your career in an interesting and positive way.

Set Attainable Short-Term Goals and Lofty Long-Term Goals

When you're a remote, freelance, or contract worker, you're often accountable only to yourself. This freedom or liberation is likely what drew you to remote work in the first place, but with great power comes great responsibility.

It's easy for the train to come flying off the tracks when you're all alone, so you need to be really goal-oriented. Set attainable short-term goals that you can hit every day or every week, then create a loftier goal to have your sights set on like the North Star.

There's a fine line between setting and achieving goals to stay on track and beating yourself up for not achieving those goals. When you're able to walk the line is when you'll be most productive.

Networking Is Crucial

Remote work is inherently lonely, which makes it more difficult to network than, say, when you go into an office full of people, communicate with clients, etc. If you're going to have an upward career trajectory, you have to get used to creating and taking advantage of relationships.

Networking is a technical word for what really is a simple concept. Seek out genuine human relationships and you'll create contacts that pay off immediately and for years to come.

Don't Rest On Your Laurels

Being able to work from home is a great luxury, but you can't get too comfortable if you really want to advance your career. Follow these tips and remain driven all the time, then you'll see your career flourish the way you want it to.
